For companies that sell into K–12

Get specified, shortlisted and bought.

How schools buy is changing. Architects, facilities directors and district leaders do most of their research on their own now. By the time they call a rep, the shortlist is already made.

I help you win the business that's decided before the call, as your fractional marketing lead or on a project basis.

What I’m brought in to fix

If one of these sounds like your team, we should talk.

Capital projects

  • “We want to build a bond-funded revenue pipeline.”

I help you design and run a capital-projects go-to-market alongside your channel: who you target, how you get specified, and who owns each step.

  • “We keep losing to ‘or equal’ substitutions at bid.”

I get you written into the spec by name, and give architects a reason to keep you there.

  • “Architects and facilities teams don’t know we exist.”

I get you into their libraries, their resources and their shortlists before design starts.

Resellers and direct

  • “Our resellers lead with someone else’s brand.”

I build the partner program, margin story and enablement that make you the easy sell.

  • “Deals stall at privacy, proof or procurement review.”

I build the evidence, funding case and compliance answers before the checklist asks.

  • “Buyers find our competitors first.”

I fix what districts find when they research you on their own.

Either route

“Nobody owns marketing, or the team is stretched thin.”

I step in as your fractional marketing lead, or add senior hands alongside your team, for a set term.

Selected work

Three problems from the routes above, and what changed.

Capital projects

Finding the districts with bond money

Problem
A sales team covering 10 states couldn't tell which districts could actually buy.
What we did
Built a scoring model from bond, purchasing, enrollment and construction data that the team could run without me.
Result
278 priority accounts. A target list was checked by sales in the field, leadership adopted the model as a standing tool, and a second region asked for it within three days.

Resellers

Getting resellers to lead with your brand

Problem
Resellers led with competitors' products.
What we did
Designed a tiered partner program from scratch, with certification, a partner portal, and a map showing where reseller revenue actually landed.
Result
Resellers used the sales enablement tools more, so they had what they needed to sell your products and not someone else's.

Events

Making the trade-show budget pay

Problem
A big, expensive show calendar where most leads were buyers the sales team already knew.
What we did
Redesigned the trade-show strategy. We kept only the shows that brought in new buyers, and built lead capture and follow-up so every show could be measured.
Result
A fraction of the former event spend, with every remaining show tied to pipeline you could track.

What people I've worked with say

“Even with a limited and shrinking marketing budget, he consistently demonstrated creativity, resourcefulness, and the ability to do more with less.”

Jens Holstebro
Former President and CEO, FrontRow

“One of the few marketers I've met who is equally strong on classical fundamentals and modern execution.”

Grant Larsen
B2B marketing leader

“A critical quality in Demetrius is listening quietly, and then he goes on fact finding, solution probing, and then comes back with a plethora of educated questions. … He’s definitely not the follower, but a trail blazer and wayfinder.”

Vice President, Infrastructure Projects

I've sat in the chair you'd hire for

I ran Americas marketing for a publicly traded K–12 company, across a portfolio that ranged from SaaS and professional services to hardware and integrated AV solutions, sold through both routes above.

I owned the go-to-market behind them: positioning, the content and search program, reseller and partner enablement, trade shows, award programs, and for a time the inside sales team.

Along the way I mapped more than 45,000 district procurement records, redesigned a reseller program, created a funding center that ties product value to federal statutes, and built an AI-run marketing operation that handled recurring work end to end.

Earlier, I supported communications and outreach for a federally regulated transit agency, through rail incidents and wildfire response, and built a startup's marketing team of eight from scratch. Twenty years in all.

Questions companies ask

Is this marketing, strategy or sales support?

Whichever the job needs. Much of it is market development: where the money is, who specifies, which channel to lean on, and what proof a buyer needs.

Why not just hire an agency?

An agency executes the brief you write. I help you write it, then build the campaign behind it. I've spent years inside a K–12 company, so I already know how districts fund, specify and buy, and what your resellers need to sell you. You don't pay for me to learn your market, and the person who shapes the strategy is the same one doing the work.

Who actually does the work?

I do, start to finish, brand and design work included. You're not handed off to a junior team or an outside shop. I use modern tools, AI among them, to move faster, but the research, the judgment, the creative and the recommendations are mine, and nothing reaches you that I haven't reviewed.

We already have a marketing team. Where do you fit?

Alongside them. I can take a project off their plate, add hands ahead of a launch or buying season, or give a fresh read on what's working. The work and the know-how stay with your team when we're done.

How many clients do you take?

A small number at a time, so each engagement gets real attention.

How to start

Whether you need someone to lead marketing where nobody is in the seat, extra hands ahead of a launch or buying season, or a fresh read on a team that's been heads-down, the first call is a working session, not a pitch.

Bring your product and the route you sell through, and you'll leave with a read on where buyers are finding you, where they aren't, and what I'd fix first. I take on a small number of companies at a time, chosen where I can move the result.

  1. A 30-minute working call. You walk me through the product and how it sells; I give you my read on what's holding it back.
  2. A one-page proposal within two business days: scope, outcome, dates and price.
  3. Kickoff on the date we agree, then a short written update every week, so you always know where the work stands.
  4. A clean handoff at the end. The work, the files and the know-how stay with your team.
